Assam: Bodo student body gives ultimatum over implementation of BTR Peace Accord

The president of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) announced that it will resume its democratic movement in six months if the 2020 Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Peace Agreement is not fully implemented. 
 

This statement was made during the 37th Bodoland Martyrs' Day observation, at Raimana Friends Club ground in the Gosaigaon sub-division of Kokrajhar district, on June 12.
 

During an interaction with reporters, the ABSU president emphasised that the clauses of the BTR agreement should have been implemented on time, especially considering that it has been four years since the agreement was signed. He warned that the student union would resume its agitation if the agreement is not fully executed within the next six months.
 

In response, Joyanta Basumatary, Member of Parliament from Kokrajhar, assured the public that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government would take positive steps to implement the BTR agreement and expressed confidence that there would be no need for further agitation. 
 

Joyanta Basumatary, the newly elected MP from Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency, and Jiran Basumatari, MLA, also echoed this sentiment, assuring that measures would be taken to avoid any unrest.
 

The 37th Martyrs' Day of the ABSU was marked by a solemn observation and a strong message to the government about the urgency of implementing the BTR Peace Agreement.
