Chaotic scenes were witnessed on the National Highway No 2 in Assam's Bongaigaon as scores of locals surrounded a police team alleging them of indulging in high handedness.
The situation heated up after an accident occurred during a regular checking along the National Highway at Rangapani. Locals allege that one person riding a motorcycle was stopped by the police at the roadside checking. During that moment, locals allege that police lashed the person on the motorcycle with baton, which caused him to fell down from his bike.
Right at that moment, another motorcycle reports came in with two riders and was about to halt when it collided with the person who had fallen down due to alleging police high handedness.
As a result of the reported freak accident, all three persons were injured on the spot. It was then that locals gathered at the spot and started questioning the police personnel at the checking regarding their handling of the situation. This was reportedly followed by a heated argument which quickly saw the locals gherao the police personnel and question them.
However, soon the situation was brought under control and the three injured bike riders were sent to a hospital to be treated.
