Assam: Devotees celebrate Mahalaya in Margherita, welcome Goddess Durga

People came out in large numbers in Assam's Margherita to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Mahalaya, marking the arrival of Goddess Durga. 
 

The day was marked by endless enthusiasm among the people, like in various parts of the state for the Sharodiya Durgautsav.
 

Since morning, people gathered on the streets to seek the blessings of Goddess Durga at Margherita sub division. 
 

According to Hindu mythology, on this day, Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar created Goddess Durga to defeat the demon Mahishasura.
 

A drama was also organised by Navoday Cultural Association Margherita on the occasion.
 

Mahalaya events are in full swing, with communities organizing prayers, cultural programs, and devotional gatherings. Temples and homes are filled with eager anticipation, as devotees prepare to welcome the Goddess with open hearts and festive fervor.
