In a significant operation, Dhubri police on Sunday night seized multiple sacks of sugar under a bridge near Sadar Samshan on the bank of the Gadadhar River, adjacent to Dhubri town.
The sacks were allegedly being smuggled illegally by miscreants.
Police officers reached the spot where the accused smugglers allegedly fled and found eleven sacks full of sugar stocked at the ghat.
These sacks were meant to be transported downstream from the Gadadhar River in Folimari to their intended location.

An official reported that a small country boat with machine fittings escaped the ghat carrying sugar sacks, leaving behind the eleven sacks.
The consignment was made without any official documentation, so the police officers confiscated the eleven sacks of sugar.
The confiscated sugar was taken to the Sadar police station and will soon be handed over to the customs department for further inquiry.
