A baby elephant was rescued in Sonitpur's Rangapara, after being separated from its herd. Despite best efforts, forest officials were unable to reunite the one-year-old calf with its mother.
The distressed calf, brought to the Amaribari Forest Range Office, continues to cry out in search of its mother.
The Forest Department remains determined to make another attempt to reunite the calf with its herd during daylight hours.
However, if this endeavor proves unsuccessful, the young elephant will be transferred to the Panpur Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Kaziranga for care and safety.
