A team from the Forest Department, led by Sheshidhar Reddy, the Deputy Field Director of Manas Tiger Project, conducted an operation yesterday and arrested a man with two elephant tusks. The arrested individual has been identified as Sadhin Narzary (54), son of Lieutenant Sadar Narzary from No. 2 Bongrun village under Harisinga police station in Udalguri district.
According to a press release issued by the Manas authorities, based on specific intelligence, the team raided the suspect’s residence and seized two elephant tusks weighing 13 kg. Additionally, the team confiscated a WagonR vehicle with registration number AS 26 G 4933 and a mobile phone from his house. The seized vehicle belonged to Sadhin Narzary’s accomplice, who is currently absconding. A search operation is ongoing to locate the fugitive.
Notably, the operation was carried out in the presence of Manas' Bansbari Range Ranger Barin Boro, Bhuyanpara Ranger Vivekananda Pathak, Kahitama Beat Officer Nayanjyoti Pathak, and forest personnel including Papori Kachari, along with other officials. Furthermore, the Paneri Police Station of Udalguri district assisted the team during the raid. The arrested individual was produced before the court this evening by the Forest Department.
