The Goalpara District Former ULFA Unity Forum held an expanded general meeting at Salpara, Krishnai, on Sunday. The event, presided over by Forum President Sachidananda Rabha and convened by General Secretary Kumud Chandra Das, featured Anup Chetia, Advisor to the Central Committee of the former ULFA, as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Anup Chetia called upon all former ULFA members to consolidate under a single platform to address their grievances and press for the fulfillment of their demands. He stressed the importance of standing by the families of martyrs, ensuring their welfare and addressing their challenges collectively.
Chetia also highlighted progress in ongoing peace accord discussions with the Central Government. He noted that deliberations with Assam’s Home Secretary and a high-level Central Government delegation had explored ways to secure financial benefits for former ULFA members through the accord.
The discussions also focused on the role of former members in fostering an agricultural revolution. A proposal for a Rs 350 crore scheme aimed at empowering ex-members through sustainable farming initiatives was submitted to the Central Government. If approved, the scheme could significantly improve economic prospects for the group while contributing to agricultural development in the region.
Chetia expressed optimism about the initiative, emphasizing its potential to create a robust financial foundation for former ULFA members.
