Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi joined forces with Tanzil Hussain to lead a rally in Samaguri, gearing up for the upcoming by-elections. The rally highlights Tanzil, son of Lok Sabha MP Rakibul Hussain, as he sets his sights on potentially becoming the youngest MLA in Assam if he secures victory in the November 13 polls.
Earlier on october 20, The Indian National Congress (INC) had announced its candidates for the by-elections in five constituencies across Assam. Notably, Tanzil Hussain will contest from Samaguri, a seat previously held by his father. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rakibul Hussain triumphed with an impressive margin of 10,12,476 votes.
The assembly by-elections will take place in Dholai (SC), Sidli (ST), Bongaigaon, Behali, and Samaguri, all of which became vacant following the Lok Sabha elections. Alongside Hussain, the party has nominated Dhrubajyoti Purakayastha for Dholai, Sanjib Warle for Sidli, and Brajenjit Sinha for Bongaigaon.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also announced its candidates for the bypolls, revealing plans for a competitive race. Nihar Ranjan Das will contest in Dhola, Diganta Ghatowar in Behali, and Diplu Ranjan Sarma will challenge Hussain in Samaguri. The BJP's entry adds an additional layer of excitement to an already dynamic electoral landscape.
In a broader context, the INC also disclosed its candidates for two constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, further illustrating its strategic focus on upcoming elections across the nation. Mukesh Malhotra will contest from Vijaypur and Rajkumar Patel from Budhni, highlighting the party’s efforts to regain influence in traditional strongholds.
