Assam: Minister Pijush Hazarika targets Congress chief Bhupen Bora over Mising gamosa controversy

Assam cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika has targeted Assam Congress president Bhupen Bora over the controversy arising of the latter stepping over a Mising community gamosa. 

Targeting the Assam Congress president, Hazarika said that Bora has been visiting people only with intent from his head and not from his heart, hence incidents like him stepping over a cultural item of the Mising community like the gamosa has happened. He further said that Congress leaders are not doing things out of sincerity and hence their efforts will not bear fruit. 

"I heard a short while ago that Bhupen Bora has stepped over the Mising community's cultural symbol, their gamosa. They do these type of things always. They have not gone there willingly. They have stepped over the Mising gamosa because they have not gone there willingly. They have not gone from their heart, but from their head. Things that are done from the brain do not have sincerity. They are trying but people will not let their efforts succeed," said Pijush Hazarika.

Bhupen Bora has been dragged into a controversy after he stepped over the revered cloth or gamosa of the Mising tribe, the Ribi Gaseng. The incident occurred at the residence of Upen Kuli, a former village elder in Na Pam Kuli village, situated in the Simen Mukh panchayat of Jonai constituency. As Bora carelessly stepped on the mising's self-respect symbol, strong reactions erupted within the Mising community.

On the other hand, reacting on the Congress party's efforts to woo the voters ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year, Hazarika said that they would end up winning just one seat. He even predicted that the Congress will be restricted to just seventeen or eighteen seats in the next Assembly elections. 

"They are being forced to promise before the people for doing things. Why do people make promises? Only when they are not being trusted. BJP has delivered hence people trust BJP. Bhupen Bora will find some benefit though if he visits the Sor (riverine island) areas. We will go to the Sor areas for development, not for votes. They can get votes from the Sor areas, but from nowhere else. There is no use to all of their efforts. In the coming Lok Sabha elections, they will win just one vote somewhere. And in the assembly elections, they will manage to win just seventeen or eighteen seats. Their politics will end with just that," said Hazarika.
