In a harrowing incident that unfolded in Kokrajhar on June 3, a train narrowly averted a disaster as its main engine became detached from the carriages during its journey.
The incident, which occurred at a distance from the railway station, holds significance in the wake of a recent fatal train accident in Odisha. Eyewitnesses were stunned as the engine suddenly detached and moved away while the passenger-less train was in motion. The engine eventually came to a halt about 500-600 meters away.
On hearing about the incident , Railway staff arrived at the scene and reattached the main engine, restoring full movement after an hour-long delay.
A witness who was present during the incident shared their account, stating, "The train was moving just in front of us. We witnessed the train in motion. Suddenly, we heard a loud noise and observed that the engine had become detached from the other carriages. The train continued to move ahead with only two coaches, while the rest remained separated from the engine. Concerned about a potential incident, we immediately informed the railway department about the situation. As we hurried towards the engine, we noticed that the engine compartment was empty. Our thoughts immediately turned to the horrific train collision in Odisha's Balasore, where numerous lives were lost. We promptly conveyed the incident to the railway officials as well."
