Assam Minister Ranjit Kumar Das on November 22 said that the people who offered Saleng Chador to AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal are at fault.
Speaking to the reporters about the Seleng controversy, minister Ranjit Kumar Das said, "Why Assamese people giving Seleng to Badruddin Ajmal? I think the people who gave the Seleng to Ajmal are at fault. Of all these years, we have never seen Badruddin Ajmal following or observing socio-cultural aspects equally with the other communities of Assam. So, the Assamese people who offered the Seleng to Ajmal are at fault".
An FIR was lodged against All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo and MP Badruddin Ajmal over the controversy surrounding him throwing away the revered 'Saleng Chadar', a symbol of deep respect in Assamese culture.
Ajmal was attending a public rally at Laharighat in Morigaon district, where he threw away the Saleng Chadar that on his shoulder, while on stage in front of everyone.
Since the controversy, the AIUDF has drawn flak from all sections of the society with many terming his actions disgraceful and disrespectful and for which the perfume baron should be arrested.
