The cultural fraternity of Assam is mourning the demise of renowned stage actor Sajid Ahmed, who passed away this morning (April 19) at his residence in Barika Suburi, Tezpur after battling a terminal illness for nearly two months.
Born on December 14, 1960, Sajid Ahmed retired in 2020 from his position as a staff member at the Tezpur Court. For the past 30 days, he had been suffering from a serious illness and was bedridden for the last 15 days, during which he fought valiantly before taking his last breath. With his death, the region has lost a talented and accomplished theater artist.
Sajid Ahmed was widely respected in the theatrical community of Tezpur, and his passing has left his fellow artists deeply grief-stricken. The theater world has suffered an irreparable loss with his demise.
In 2003, to commemorate the birth centenary of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala, he played the role of 'Nat Surya' in a 12-episode television series produced by Guwahati Doordarshan based on the novel Tore More Alokore Yatra by Chandraprasad Saikia. He also acted in a 14-episode series based on the life of Srimanta Sankardev, written by Lakhinandan Bora, directed by Sail Baruah, and produced by Surya Hazarika. Additionally, he portrayed key characters in a significant number of plays written by Aishwarya Kakoti.
Various organizations, including the Assam Natya Sanmilan, Tezpur Baan Theatre, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Sonitpur Silpi Samaj, cultural group Chatak, and numerous individuals and institutions, have expressed deep condolences and extended sympathy to his family.
