An adult rhinoceros was seen wandering through the ripe paddy fields of Kakojan Tinikhuria under Jorhat Forest Division early this morning, December 2.
Initially mistaken for a buffalo by villagers, the true identity of the animal was confirmed, prompting them to inform the police and Forest Department.
Forest officials have reportedly set out to the location to assess the situation. Similar incidents were recorded last year when two rhinos strayed into areas near the Brahmaputra River.
With the harvest season in full swing, the unexpected sighting has left villagers alarmed. As per the latest updates, the rhino has moved to an open area devoid of crops, reducing the immediate threat to the fields.
