As country prepares for Independence Day celebrations, Assam's security forces are on high alert following credible intelligence reports indicating a potential threat from insurgents.
According to police sources, a group of approximately seven members from the ULFA-I (United Liberation Front of Asom- Independent) faction has reportedly crossed into Assam from Myanmar, with plans to disrupt the festivities.
In response to these threats, security forces, including Assam Police and Assam Rifles, have intensified anti-insurgency operations in the dense forests along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. The operations aim to preempt any attacks and ensure that Independence Day celebrations proceed without incident.
The police have also received reports of extortion demands targeting businessmen in Upper Assam, allegedly by ULFA members. These demands have added to the urgency of the ongoing operations as authorities work to neutralize any threats posed by the insurgent group.
Security measures have been significantly heightened across the region to prevent any insurgent activities and protect civilians during the Independence Day celebrations.
