Assam: SSB seizes timber-laden vehicle in Chirang, 3 arrested

The 15th Bn SSB on February 15 seized a timber-laden Tata mobile pick-up van from smugglers at Bijni in Chirang district. 

As per sources, a vicious circle of timber mafia has been operating the illegal activity and destroying the forest land. 

Acting on variable inputs, alert team of SSB conduted a raid at Batabari in Chirang district during the day today. An SSB team led by Umesh Kumar, commandant of SSB's No. 15 Battalion at Dansiapara, seized a pick-up van filled wih timber logs. The seized vehicle bore registration number S01-DC-1047. 

Three persons have been arrested into the incident following the seizure of the vehicle.

The arrestees were identified as Abdul Aziz (29), Golap Hussain (26) and Mofizur Rahman (28). The three arrested have their homes in Bijni's Bhawraguri. The SSB later handed over the arrested persons to the Bijni forest department alongwith the seized wooden trunks.
