Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on December 31 attended the 21st convocation of Tezpur University, Assam.
Addressing the teachers and students who had gathered at the convocation, Rajnath Singh said, "Assam has given such icons to the country who have excelled in art, valour, religion, politics and almost all fields. As far as I have been able to understand the youth, I can say that students have more innovation than teachers..."
A total of 1,355 graduates were honored during the ceremony, with 785 receiving postgraduate degrees, 432 obtaining undergraduate degrees across various disciplines such as B.Tech, B.Sc, BA, B.Ed, and B.Com, and five being awarded postgraduate diplomas. In addition to these, over 100 researchers were recognized with PhD degrees, and 23 students from distance and online education mediums also received their degrees.
Tezpur University, established by an Act of Parliament in 1994, has been a center of excellence in higher education. Located on a sprawling 262-acre campus at Napaam, about 15 km east of Tezpur town in the Sonitpur District of Assam, the university has made significant contributions to both academia and society. It has been involved in unique initiatives such as training Indian Army personnel in the Chinese language and considering the establishment of a Department of Defence Studies.
The convocation ceremony not only highlighted the academic prowess of Tezpur University but also underscored its strategic importance in terms of defense studies and collaborations with military institutions. With the Chancellorship held by the Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria, and the Vice-Chancellorship by Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, the university continues to forge ahead in its mission to contribute to the nation's development through education and research.
