Assam: Three die as boat sinks in floodwaters in Goalpara, two missing

A tragic boat accident occurred at a public crematorium under Shimlitola police station in Goalpara, leading to the death of three youths and two others missing. 

The incident took place on the river as five youths were returning home after performing the last rites for a deceased community member.

The bodies of three of the missing youths, identified as Manjeet Saha, Jeet Malakar, and Sujan Malakar, have been recovered. However, the search for Gaurang Malakar and Uday Sarkar is still ongoing, with their bodies yet to be found.

After completing the last rites, their boat capsized in the middle of the river, causing all five to drown.

Emergency response efforts led to the recovery of the bodies of Manjeet Saha, Gaurang Malakar, and Uday Sarkar. 

The police, with the assistance of local residents, retrieved the bodies and transported them for postmortem examination. 

However, the bodies of Jeet Karmakar and Sujan Malakar remain missing as of the latest reports.
