Assam: Timber mafia busted in Tarani reserve forest, key syndicate leader arrested

In a joint operation, the forest department and police successfully dismantled a timber smuggling syndicate in the Tarani Reserve Forest area, Pengree, under Margherita Co-District.

The crackdown led to the arrest of Mridul Bora, a notorious timber mafia figure from Tinsukia district. 

Authorities seized a truck loaded with illegal timber, including Shimulu and Holong logs, as well as an excavator used in the operation.

Mridul Bora's syndicate has long been accused of supplying illegal timber to sawmills in the district. 

This significant breakthrough marks a major step in the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and the forest department to combat timber smuggling in the region.
