A CCTV footage has been recovered from the Hatigaon area in Guwahati, where a minor jumped into a drain at around 5:30 am on the morning of August 31 after he was denied Rs 1,000 from his mother. However, he was recovered at around 10:39 am.
Speaking to India Today NE, the boy said he jumped because he was scared that his mother would beat him. According to the locals, the boy has been jumping into drains for money for quite sometime now and that this is not the first time.
His father said that the boy had taken his sister's phone and ran away from the house, only to call her mother to ask for Rs 1,000. Listening to this, his father went to the spot to get him back at home, and upon seeing him coming, the boy jumped inside the train.

According to Hatigaon Police Officer in-Charge, the 16-year-old boy called his mother and informed her not to search for him and that he was in Sijubari, having a cup of tea.
The police officials immediately rushed the spot, but the boy was nowhere to be found.
However, the locals fetched the boy from another drain at a distance of over 50 meters from the drain where he jumped into. He was immediately recovered and taken to nearby Hatigaon Police station.
Currently, he is in the police custody.
