Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he spoke to the railway minister after a goods train collided with the Sealdah-bound 13174 Kanchanjungha Express near New Jalpaiguri station, mentioning that there would be many passengers from Assam on board, as the train passes through the state.
He further informed that his government is in constant touch with the railway authority, awaiting details so that necessary action can be taken.
Speaking to reporters, the Assam chief minister informed that the train was from Tripura and passes through Assam; hence, there will be many passengers belonging to the state.
Expressing concern, CM Himanta informed that his government is awaiting clarity into the details from the railway department, following which necessary action will be taken.
The Assam CM said, “I have spoken to the railway minister regarding the accident. The train was from Tripura and passes through Assam. There will be many passengers from Assam. We remain concerned about the passengers but we are waiting for details. My Chief Secretary is in constant talks with railway authority. Whatever needs to be done will be done...we need to get clarity from railway department."
Earlier, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on X, "The tragic train collision between the Kanchenjunga Express and a Goods train is extremely unfortunate. My heart goes out to the families of those who have lost their lives, and prayers for the swift recovery of the injured."
