Lord Krishna is Assam's 'son-in-law', says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma graced the 'International Gita Mahotsav' in Kurukshetra, Haryana, on December 23. The festival, a significant event for Hindu devotees, celebrates the birth of the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred scripture that is a philosophical guide and spiritual teacher for Hindus. 

This year's celebration was particularly special as it took place in the holy land of Kurukshetra, where the divine message of the Gita is believed to have been imparted by Lord Krishna to Arjuna.

During the festivities, CM Sarma highlighted the deep cultural connection between Assam and the epic narrative of the Bhagavad Gita. He poignantly remarked, "...Lord Krishna is our son-in-law because he married Rukmini, daughter of Assam. Therefore our relationship with Lord Krishna is that of a son-in-law..." 

The International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra is a vibrant confluence of spiritual activities including yajnas, recitation of Gita verses, devotional songs, and dramatic performances. Pilgrims from all over the country, and even internationally, converge on this sacred site to partake in the rituals and immerse themselves in the spiritual ambiance. A key ritual involves taking a holy dip in the sacred tanks of Sannihit Sarovar and Brahma Sarovar, believed to purify the soul.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's participation in the Mahotsav underscores the importance of this event not just in Haryana but across the Indian subcontinent. It serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of the Bhagavad Gita and its capacity to unite people from diverse backgrounds in a shared spiritual experience.
