In a significant crackdown, Churaibari police at the Assam-Tripura border seized contraband cough syrup valued at approximately Rs 5 crore during a naka checking operation. The banned substance, identified as ESKUF, was found concealed beneath onion sacks in a goods truck bearing registration number UP/75/AT/4207.
The haul included 44,000 bottles packed in 294 cartons, reportedly en route to Tripura. Authorities intercepted the truck just moments before the consignment could cross the state border. However, the driver managed to flee the scene, evading arrest.
Investigations are underway to identify those involved in the attempted smuggling of the large cache of banned pharmaceuticals. The operation marks another milestone in the ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug trafficking in the region.
