Union Minister and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, renowned for his relentless battle against superstitions and social ills, visited the residence of the late Dr Birubala Rabha on May 27 to offer condolences to the bereaved families.
Dr Birubala Rabha, a prominent figure in the crusade against superstition, fell victim to the same issue she fought against.
She is renowned for initiating "Mission Birubala" in 2011 from Thakurbila, her native village situated on the Assam-Meghalaya border.
Expressing his deepest sympathies, Union Minister Sonowal hailed Birubala Rabha as a beloved figure in Assam's national life, highlighting her fearless efforts to eradicate superstition and prejudice throughout her lifetime.
Recalling their interactions, Sonowal shared insights into their discussions, emphasising Birubala Rabha’s tireless commitment to societal betterment and women's empowerment. He pledged to honor her memory and continue her legacy by furthering the fight against superstition and fostering societal strength.
Meanwhile, Sonowal also expressed optimism regarding the upcoming general election results which will be announced on June 4.
Sonowal's visit not only commemorated the life and contributions of Birubala Rabha but also underscored the ongoing commitment to combatting superstition and fostering societal progress in Assam and beyond.
