Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhupen Borah on October 29 asserted that the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi departs from Delhi, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will begin scrutinizing Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Borah further said, "The day Narendra Modi is removed from Delhi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's heart will tremble. We do not fear Assam's Chief Minister; he attempts to instill fear in us, but we are not afraid of Himanta Biswa Sarma."
Bhupen Borah went on to state that Chief Minister Sarma, who previously had apprehensions about the CBI and the ED, had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Borah stated that Congress remained steadfast in its position, expressing no fear towards Sarma, even after a potential change in government. "Even after the BJP government is removed, the CBI and ED will still be in existence," Borah asserted.
The Congress leader further spoke about the current political climate in the country, highlighting recent elections in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. Bhupen Borah pointed out that despite a Hindu majority in both states, the BJP had lost power. "In Himachal, where there is a majority of Hindu people, the BJP lost the election. Even in Karnataka, where 87 percent of the population is Hindu, the BJP lost the election, and the people voted for Congress."
Addressing the situation in Assam, Bhupen Borah claimed that the people of the state were becoming increasingly aware of the BJP's tactics and falsehoods. He stressed the importance of unifying against the ruling party, saying, "If we want to throw away BJP from Delhi, we have to win 273 MP seats. To achieve that, 26 political parties have united to remove the tyranny of the BJP rule."
Borah made it clear that the exclusion of Badruddin Ajmal's All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) from this united front was a strategic choice, stating, "AIUDF can never form any government in Assam in the next 100 years."
The Congress leader also revealed that in Assam, four regional parties and 11 national political parties have united, pledging to bring the BJP's rule in Assam to an end. Bhupen Borah went on to announce some key promises, stating, "Once Congress comes to power in Assam, we will deposit Rs 2500 to women every 9th of every month. We will also provide 200 units of free electricity to every household."
Borah cited examples from Congress-ruled states, such as Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka, where cylinder prices were maintained at Rs. 500, as opposed to other BJP-ruled states where prices soared to Rs. 1200 per cylinder. "Congress aims to provide cylinders at Rs. 500 to every family in Assam," he declared.
