KOCHI: A 19-year-old junior naval sailor has been found dead with a bullet injury today in the early hours at the Naval Base in Kochi.

The deceased has been identified as Thushar Atri, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh.

The sailor was deployed to Katari Bagh's C2 tower on guard duty for the 12 am to 4 am shift today.

When another navy sailor went to the tower between 2.30 and 3.30 am to change the power battery, he found Atri in a pool of blood after being shot.

Both the police and the navy have initiated a probe into the incident, which is suspected to be a suicide.

Moreover, an unnatural death case has been registered, said police spokesman at Harbour Police Station.

The deceased's body is currently at a Navy Hospital and will be taken to a Government Hospital for a postmortem procedure before being returned to his homeland.
