AGARTALA: At a time when the world is fighting with the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and taking measures to stop the spread of the virus, as many as 31 patients diagnosis with COVID-19 fled from a quarantine centre in Tripura.

All 31 patients’ have fled from the Panchayat Raj Training Institute (PRTI) COVID care centre at Arundhuti Nagar in West Tripura district on Wednesday night.

According to West Tripura District Magistrate Shailesh Kumar Yadav, the truants travelled from states such as Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Rajasthan, to participate in the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) recruitment rally.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been activated up to Guwahati after Sadar Subdivisional police officer Anirban Das informed police station and railway stations because the majority of them are from other states.

Investigation on this matter is underway.

According to reports, the escapees were tracked down, however, they have already left Tripura, thus a FIR against them was lodged.

The state currently has 563 active cases, while, 33286 people have so far been recovered from the disease, and 391 people had died due to the infection.
