AGARTALA: At least four leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) including three women and a man were killed in a road accident in Tripura late yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Mamata Rani Jamatia (26), Gahin Kumar Jamatia (65), Urbashi Kanya Jamatia (45), and Rachana Devi Jamatia (30).

The incident took place in Gomati district of the state when a Maxi truck in which they were travelling lost control and overturned, police said.

According to police, they were heading towards home, Natun Bazar after attending a public meeting in connection with the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council slated to be held on April 6.

Critically injured people were rushed to a nearby government hospital for medical treatment.

Chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and BJP state president Manik Saha have condoled the deaths.
