Meghalaya will soon see electric vehicles (EV) plying in the streets as the state has accelerated the process of introducing EVs. In the latest round of reports, the hilly state has received 40 EV charging stations under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India or FAME India Scheme to further boost the EV culture.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma thanked Union Minister Prakash Javadekar for choosing Meghalaya as one of the states for the second phase of the FAME India Scheme.
He took to Twitter and posted, "Center has announced 40 EV charging stations for #Meghalaya under the FAME India Scheme this year. Our gratitude to Sh. @PrakashJavdekar ji for choosing Meghalaya as one of the two states from the #Northeast for the second phase of the scheme."
The installation of these charging stations would encourage people to opt for EVs and help Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to introduce new electric vehicles models, said Javadekar while announcing the charging stations’ installation in as many as 62 cities of the country.

Among the Northeastern states, Meghalaya and Assam were chosen for the setting up of the charging facilities. While Meghalaya received 40, Assam received 20 charging stations in the second phase of the FAME India Scheme.
It may be mentioned here that the sanction letters will be issued in phases after ensuring the availability of land for charging stations, signing of necessary agreements with the concerned partner organisations.
