LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh police arrested seven person from Baghpat here, for stealing clothes of dead bodies, from a crematorium.
The arrests comes at a time, when the social media and national newspapers have been documenting on increasing number of bodies as the country's COVID-19 pandemic situation is worsening.

The accused stole the shrouds used to cover the dead bodies, as well as their clothes.
Over 520 bedsheets, 127 kurtas, 52 white sarees, and other clothing pieces were among the items recovered from the possession of the accused.
The accused used to wash the articles and iron them before reselling them under a Gwalior company's name.
The accused were paid Rs 300 by some local clothing vendors for a day's loot.

Three of the seven people arrested belong to the same family.
The accused had been doing this for over 10 years.
The police said, since they were caught during the COVID-19 pandemic, they have been booked under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897, in addition to stealing.
