MUMBAI: Actor Akshay Kumar was slammed by angry netizens for urging people not to play Holi in the light of the growing cases of COVID-19 in parts of India.

The actor received a massive backlash on Monday.

The Right ring brigade started to troll Akshay as soon as he took to his Twitter handle to ask people to stay away from Holi celebrations.

“Do me a favour let’s not play Holi! Celebrate at home, for your safety and the safety of your loved ones. Wishing you all a very Happy Holi,” Akshay tweeted.

This, however, did not go down well with Hindutva activists who troll the actor on a regular basis.

“Do me a favour let’s not watch any Bollywood movies in theatres ! Watch online at home, for your safety & the safety of your loved ones & above it save Rs.2000 bugs for 4 people of family for each movie. Wishing you all this Happy Holi & Many More Holis !!” trolled Mahendrakumar Soni.

“Do me a favour. Let's not watch "Ram Setu" in theaters. Instead do worship Ram at home, for ur safety and the safety of your loved ones. Wishing you all a very Happy Holi,” read another troll from Sowmadeep Howlader.
