The veteran actor’s son Kanu Behl said, “In the afternoon, he passed away. It became problematic because he had a history of heart problems and had COVID. He had a major infection in his lungs, which, combined with his prior medical history, complicated his health even further”.
Actor Adil Hussain, who played his son in Mukti Bhawan, expressed his condolences on Twitter and wrote, "Extremely saddened by the demise of one of my dearest and most respected co-actors, Lalit Behl jee. Who, so brilliantly played the father in Mukti Bhawan! I feel the loss of my father again! Dear Kanu I am so very sorry for your loss."
Hussain played a man who chooses to accompany his elderly father (played by Lalit) to seek redemption on the ghats of Varanasi in the 2016 film.
Lalit started his career directing and producing Doordarshan telefilms such as Tapish, Aatish, and Sunehri Jild, as well as acting in the TV show Afsane. Mukti Bhawan's 2014 drama Titli, directed by his uncle, Mukti Bhawan's Amazon Prime Video series Made in Heaven, and Judgementall Hai Kya in 2019 are some of his recent works.
