Agatha Sangma Goes 'Green' at Wedding, Gifts Seed Papers to Guests

Tura MP Agatha Sangma's simple-yet-spectacular wedding will stay etched in public memory for a number of reasons. The wedding, attended by the who's-who of Northeast India, became the talk of the the town, and now, the newlyweds have also been lauded for their unique gesture to promote the plantation of trees.

Showing their concern towards the environment, Agatha and Patrick Rongma Marak, the new 'it' couple from Northeast India, gifted the guests present at the wedding with the gift of nature.

The wedding guests at the wedding celebration were pleasantly surprised when each of them received a 'seed paper' from the newlyweds, which will grow into trees once planted, as a symbolic gesture of their holy union. The 'seed papers' that each wedding guest walked away with were inscribed with the words, "This is seed paper and can be planted. Please plant it to remember our special day".

Notably, Agatha and her betrothed had planted a sapling during the engagement ceremony of the couple at Rajasimpla, the birthplace of Christianity in the Garo Hills.

It may be mentioned here that the Meghalaya Government has been taking initiatives to plant more trees to create a clean, green, and healthy environment.

On World Environment Day, the Conrad Sangma led Meghalaya Government planted 1.5 million trees as part of its ‘One Citizen One Tree’ campaign on World Environment Day, earlier this year on June 5.
