The rally participants congregated at Lammual where chief secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo, and AMC mayor P C Lalhmingthanga addressed the students and spoke about the harm plastic has on health and the environment. Moreover, they stated the need to ban plastic bags less than 50 microns thick. Students from as many as 14 schools from across the state also participated in the rally.

It may be mentioned here that the Aizawl Municipal Corporation has resolved to eliminate single-use plastics from the state of Mizoram. This is in keeping with the Government of India's resolve to eliminate plastics from circulation.
The resolution to eliminate single-use plastics was undertaken on October 2, on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said his government's goal is to make India completely free of single-use plastics by 2022. These include plastic bags and products used for eating and drinking. While the plastic ban is being initiated in India, around 60 countries have already banned single-use plastic fully or partially in their countries.
