Netizens accuse singer Anu Malik of plagiarising Israel's national anthem

GUWAHATI: Anu Malik, the noted Indian Singer-composer is being trolled on Twitter for copying Israel's national anthem "Hatikvah", for a song from Ajay Devgn's film Diljale (1996 ).

Anu Malik has been accused of copying the tune of "Hatikvah", Israel's national anthem for the song "Mera Mulk Mera Desh" from the film "Diljale".

Hatikvah, a 19th-century composition, was adopted as Israel's national anthem in 1948.

On Sunday, Israel's national anthem was played at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics after Israeli gymnast Artem Dolgopyat won Israel's second gold medal.

The clip of Israel's national anthem at the Tokyo Olympics quickly went viral, with many viewers bringing to the Internet's attention that Anu Malik who has previously been trolled for plagiarising music, has once again repeated history by "stealing" Israel's national anthem.

Anu Malik is a Bollywood music composer who has written several commercially successful songs.

The 60-year-old singer has also won the National Award for Best Music Direction for the 2000 film Refugee.

Anu, on the other hand, has been closely associated with controversies in the past. During the Mitu Movement, his name was also brought up.

Several female singers--Shweta Pandit, Neha Bhasin, Sona Mohapatra, and many others accused him of sexual harassment at the time.
