Army rescues 450 stranded tourists from Indo-Sino border in Sikkim

GANGTOK: Indian Army yesterday rescued more than 450 tourists, including women and children along the India-China border at Yongdi in Sikkim.

Despite adverse weather and inclement conditions, the Indian Army succeeded in the rescue operation through timely and prompt action. The tourists were stranded due to sudden heavy snowfall.

On March 31, Yongdi in Sikkim received a heavy snowstorm and sub-zero temperatures. After the snowstorm, the 120 vehicles carrying tourists were trapped and began to skid.

Tourists, including women and children, were rescued and vehicles evacuated after snow was cleared to create a vehicle safe lane.

Tourists were also given medical assistance. There were no significant injuries or casualties.
