NEW DELHI: Leader of the Aam Adami Party and Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal slammed the BJP on Sunday for the central government's alleged attempt to 'dramatically curtail powers of elected government via a Bill in Lok Sabha'.

CM Kejriwal said the BJP was seeking to implement the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021 because it was rejected by the people in democratically-held elections.

The tweet by CM Kejriwal comes on the same day that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to introduce the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

”After being rejected by ppl of Del (8 seats in Assembly, 0 in MCD bypolls), BJP seeks to drastically curtail powers of elected govt thro a Bill in LS today. Bill is contrary to Constitution Bench judgement. We strongly condemn BJP’s unconstitutional n anti-democracy move,” he said.

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah, came up in the support of Kejriwal.

He tweeted: “In spite of AAP’s support for the dismemberment & downgrading of J&K in 2019, we still condemn this assault on the powers of the elected government of Delhi. Delhi deserves to be a full state with all powers exercised by the elected government & not a nominated LG.”
