GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially launched a vaccination centre at the Rupnath Brahma Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) Betkuchi today for uncovered inter-state and inter-district travel passengers.

The Chief Minister along with the state's Health department flagged off at least 15 mobile vaccine vans for as many as six districts.

CM Sara inaugurated these mobile vaccine vans in the presence of Assam cabinet State Health Ministers, Keshab Mahanta, and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also said the state is into a critical stage of the war against COVID-19, therefore ensuring blanket coverage of vaccination against the infection has become important.

Meanwhile, Assam reported 471 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases in the state to 5,93,087.

The death toll in the state has risen to 5719.

The state currently has 5110 active cases.

A total of 420 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering.

The total number of people cured of the disease is now 5,80,991.
