ASSAM: TRUCKS LOADED WITH TIMBERS AND SAND SEIZED IN HAILAKANDI

Two trucks, one loaded with timbers and another with sand, were seized and their drivers arrested by the personnel of Hailakandi Forest Division on Friday.

According to a delayed report reaching here, the drivers, who were handed over to the police, were later produced in a court which remanded them to police custody.

The trucks are now under the custody of the Forest Division for further investigation.

“The Hailakandi Forest Division will verify the consignments whether the timbers were smuggled and steps will be initiated accordingly as per the laid down Forest Act,” said Divisional Forest Officer, NH Mazumder.

Mazumder further said that the officials and forest department personnel were on high alert and patrolling was on to ensure that no illegal activity in respect of forest products took place in the district.
