Imphal, July 07, 2019:

An aura of benevolence and bonhomie radiated among the BJP leaders including Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and dissident leader Th Biswajit during a grand launching of nationwide BJP membership drive 2019 and 118th birth anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, held on Saturday at the Manipur Film Development Corporation in Imphal.

The BJP Manipur Pradesh leaders including Chief Minister N Biren Singh, dissident leader Th Biswajit and hordes of other leaders exchanged vows for strengthening the party for the welfare of the people setting aside infighting within the party that caused hectic criticism from various quarters for the past one month.

The new sign of apparent peace among the warring party leaders was seen. The Chief Minister and dissident leader were seen publicly for the first time sharing the same dais during the programme even though the dissident leader and Ministers and MLAs allegiance to him failed to attend the Cabinet meeting twice recently.

This is the first major bonhomie between the two BJP leaders since the Chief Minister had deprived off works portfolio from Biswajit last month. Out of 21 BJP sitting MLAs, 14 of them extended their support to the dissident leader, and from time to time, they enjoyed camps in the national capital pressing the central high commands for replacement of the incumbent chief minister.

Delivering his speech during the function, the Chief Minister said, “There will be issues in family and those issues will have a solution,” adding “Country and people of the state are more important to me and we should work together for the nation and state.”

In the same vein, the dissident leader Biswajit said that he comes out for the party and BJP is one family. “There may be differences and issues but those are family matters will not last only as it will be settled soon,” Biswajit said.

In Manipur, the membership drive would continue till August 30 and it is aimed at increasing the party's primary membership and active workers by 20 per cent. Notably, BJP purportedly has 4.40 lakh primary members and 5,634 active members.

Apart from chief minister and dissident leader sitting on the dais, other BJP leaders sitting in the dais are RS MP and BJP state president Ksh Bhabananda, LS MP Ramvichar Netam, National President, ST Morcha, BJP, Minister Th Shyamkumar, Minister Th Radheshyam Singh and L Deven Singh, state membership in charge, BJP Manipur Pradesh.
