'Blessings from My Sisters Will Help Me Punish Traitors': Tripura CM Biplab Deb

Agartala, October 29, 2019:

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb observed ‘Bhai fonta’ at his Government residence in capital city Agartala on Tuesday.

During the celebration, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb told reporters that the festival kept the relations between the brothers and sisters strong. The Chief Minister also said that the blessings of his sisters will enable him to take strict action against the people who are traitors to Tripura.

Biplab was sitting in his government residence from 11 am to 1 pm, and women of different age groups went there and put sandal wrap on the Chief Minister's forehead. They also showered the Tripura Chief Minister with gifts and fed him delicious sweets. Sweets and warm greetings were exchanged and smiles could be seen all around.

The festival of 'Bhai fonta' festival commemorates the bond between brothers and sisters. Bhai Fonta or Bhai Dooj is celebrated across India with pomp and enthusiasm. The festival is celebrated just after Diwali.

On the occasion of ‘Bhai Fonta’, the sisters apply tilak or tika (vermilion) on the foreheads of their brothers and pray for their prosperity. Sisters also prepare delicious food items for their brothers. The brothers, in return, give gifts to their sisters and promise to protect them. The celebrations of this day are similar to the festival of 'Raksha Bandhan' that is celebrated in Northern India.
