A combined team of the 43 Assam Rifles and Moreh police led by Major Rajiv and Sub Inspector Premjit apprehended large quantities of the contraband drug 'brown sugar' from an Imphal bound Maruti Suzuki Car on Friday night, officials said.
Based on a specific input, the team intercepted a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga car (bearing registration No. MN02G 1409) near KLP, around 9 pm on Friday.
On checking the vehicle, the security forces recovered 2.574 kilos of brown sugar. The contraband drugs are worth around Rs. 5.14 crores in the international market.
The driver of the vehicle, Lunkhongam Haokip, of G Kholep village near Motbung, Kangpokpi district of Manipur, was apprehended, along with the illegal items. He has been handed over to Moreh police station for further interrogation.
