Casual workers reach agreement with MeECL

Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 20, 2018:

Following intense negotiations, casual workers under the banner of MeECL Progressive Worker’s Union (MPWU) reached an agreement with their management Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Ltd (MeECL).

Fulfilling the long-pending demand of the casual workers, the agreement ensures security of their tenure through an annual automatic renewal clause, besides ensuring them EPF with MeECL paying both the employees and employer’s contribution of 12.5% each.

Further, as per the terms of the agreement, every worker will be covered by ESI health benefit, besides getting double overtime. Every worker will also get 15 days of casual leave annually and earned leave for every 15 days of work for those who have worked for a year, which adds up to 24 days of en-cashable earned leave, besides paid maternity leave for three months.

MeECL has also offered an increment of 5, 10, & 15% over and above the minimum wage for those who have worked 5, 10 and 15 years respectively.
