NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Friday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the India's  poor ranking in the Global Hunger Index.

Sibal shared a tweet regarding the claims of the government on working on the issues pertaining to poverty, hunger, and also on making the country a global power.

"Congratulations Modi ji for eradicating : 1) poverty 2) hunger 3) making India a global power 4) for our digital economy 5) …………… so much more. Global Hunger Index : 2020 : India ranked 94, 2021 : India ranks 101. Behind Bangladesh, Pakistan & Nepal," he tweeted.

India has ranked 101th position out of 116 countries at the 2021 Global Hunger Index published on Thursday.

It is noteworthy that India's rank fell from 94th position in 2020.

The Global Index calculates the hunger levels and the issue of malnutrition across the world. A total of 116 countries were evaluated out of the data accessed from 135 countries as there was not sufficient data from the remaining countries.

The index is calculated based on four indicators- undernourishment, child wasting , child stunting and child mortality.

This year India fell behind neighbouring countries including Pakistan(92), Nepal and Bangladesh (76).
