GANGTOK: Sikkim's government has decided to close "all central and state government, government-aided and private educational institutions, universities, colleges, tutorials, coaching institutes and hostels in Swill remain closed till May 31, 2021, due to the recent surge in the COVID-19 infection.

According to the circular issued by the state education department, teachers and employees are required to attend their offices on a 50% staff attendance basis, and all gazetted officers are required to attend office on a daily basis.

All government employees employed in educational establishments, as well as students aged 18 and up, have been advised to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as the government makes such a service available.

All institution heads have been asked to take care of their institutions and workplaces, as well as to ensure that the surroundings are cleaned and sanitized on a regular basis.

Government workers will not be allowed to leave the station without the approval of the appropriate authority.

During this period, senior students may attend institutions for relevant practices such as practical assessment, uploading of marks, and other matters related to board examinations with the consent of their parents or guardians, effectively retaining the COVID-19 related safety protocol.

If it hasn't already been completed, all online modes of education, including instruction, assignment, and appraisal, will be continued and expanded.

Where online instruction is not possible at the elementary level, homeschooling may be continued with the permission of the parents/guardians when adhering to all COVID-19 based safety protocols.

All school principals and teachers have been urged to download Sikkim Edutech or visit www.sikkimedutech.in. Laptops supplied to schools and BACs with preloaded educational material, as well as smart televisions provided to students, must be used for educational purposes.

BRCCs and CRCCs operated under Samagra Shiksha has been urged to fully promote online and homeschooling modes of learning, as well as obtain educational material from districts and make it accessible to teachers for the benefit of students where online learning is not possible.

"All teachers must help the administration spread information about COVID-19 and handle it in their respective fields," the communique added.
