AGARTALA: Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, on Sunday compared the CPI (M) and its tribal wing, the Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP), to a "ghost" that never dies.

"If you think the CPI (M) is over, you are mistaken; because ghosts never die," Deb said at an election rally in Manughat, Dhalai district.

The rally was held to rally support for BJP candidates running for the Manu and Chamanu-Chailengta seats in the state's autonomous district council (ADC) elections.

Deb warned his party supporters and colleagues to be cautious and not to believe that the CPI (M) has lost its meaning.

"The karyakartas (workers) of the BJP, whether it is pristha pramukh (local leaders) or state level leaders, should not believe that the CPI (M)is no longer involved in the state. They must keep in mind that ghosts never die," said the chief minister.

For a long time, the Left Front was in control in the state and the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), but there was no growth for the citizens living in the ADC areas, Deb said.

“The ADC was not sufficiently funded by the Left-wing government. However, our government allocated additional funds for the ADC's overall development,” Deb explained.

"If we believe CPI (M) and GMP are finished, then the ADC will face another black day," the CM added.
