NEW DELHI: Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, turned 86 today.
Each year, his birthday celebrations in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, were one of the most important events for the Tibetan population. However, this year Dalai Lama's birthday will not be celebrated in Tsuglagkhang (popularly known as the Dalai Lama temple/monastery) in McLeodganj, Dharamshala, due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
Rather, the Kashag (Cabinet), the Central Tibetan Administration's highest executive office, has issued an advisory advising people not to hold any congregations at all due to the pandemic situation.
