Guwahati, December 12, 2019:

The 'Gorkha Janmukti Yuwa Morcha' (led by Binoy Tamang) has declared a Darjeeling Hills 'bandh' on December 29, in opposition to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Meanwhile, several Gorkha bodies in Assam have also opposed the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act.

Gorkha organisations of Assam — Gorkha Sammelan and the Assam unit of national federation of Gorkhas in India – the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha and State unit of Bharatiya Gorkha Mahila Parisangha (BhaGoMaP) on Saturday demanded the Government to exempt aSSAM from the purview of the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Many Gorkha groups participated in Anti CAA protests and Gana Satyagraha spontaneously since it began and expressed unconditional solidarity and support to the movement.

Meanwhile, protests against the CAA have reached all corners in the country, and in response to the massive nationwide pushback, PM Narendra Modi has said that the proposed 'nationwide NRC' has been put on hold.
