Agartala, August 6, 2019:

After the Indian Government announced the abrogation of the Article 370 and 35A, which provided constitutional safeguards to the Kashmiri people, the indigenous people of Tripura have reiterated their demand for Tipraland.

Talking to Inside Northeast, Sukla Charan Noatia, IPFT has said that the indigenous people have demanded the ADC area in the State as Tipraland, a land for the original Tiprasas residing the .

"We merged with the Indian territory in 1949, but not to become minorities in our own lands", he lamented.

He added: "Bangaldeshis have infiltrated Tipraland and are now being given citizenship status, so Tripura people also need our rights."

If the Government can solve the problem of Jammu & Kashmir, they can solve the problem in Tripura also. Tripura's condition is worse. From 90% of the population, we have been reduced to a minority at 31%", he lamented.

He further said that the indigenous people will continue with the protests until the demand is fulfilled by the Indian Government. "We are hopeful that they will fulfil our requests sooner rather than later", he said.

It may be mentioned that Tipraland is the name of a proposed state in India. The formation of "Tipraland", a state within the TTAADC, under articles 2 and 3 of the Indian Constitution is demanded by a political party called the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura as one of their political agenda.
