Dimapur fire ravages 123 houses; one person killed

DIMAPUR: One person died and at least 123 thatched bamboo houses were reduced to ashes in a massive fire that broke out at Burma Camp in Naland's Dimapur in the wee hours yesterday.

After receiving a call at 12:10 am,  fire personnel from fire stations Dimapur (Central) and Dimapur (West) and four fire engines, as well as adequate equipment and staff, were dispatched on the spot to control the fire.

RO(E), FHQ, Kenny Khing said, One man (25), who suffered burn injuries, died, and 123 katcha homes, as well as household property valued at around Rs.50 lakh, were destroyed and more than 100 families were forcibly displaced of the fire.

However, he claimed that the fire was contained and stopped from spreading further after the involvement of firefighters.

Property worth around Rs.80 lakh and surrounding houses could be salvaged, he added.

The fire took three hours to put out by the fire department.

However, the cause of the fire is not known yet.
