Drug smuggling continues in Manipur; opium valued at Rs 4 crore seized

IMPHAL: Drug valued at about Rs 4 crore was seized from Manipur's Imphal West district and a person arrested in this connection on Saturday.

Based on specific information, a team of Manipur Police recovered 84.45 kg of opium and arrested the smuggler from Shantipur area of the district.

A sum of Rs 19.85 lakh was also recovered from the accused identified as Sandeep Limbu.

During interrogation, Limbu revealed that the consignment was meant to be delivered to another smuggler in Guwahati.

A case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is under way.

Manipur shares a 398 km border with Myanmar. Illegal cross-border smuggling of drugs from the neighbouring country is witnessing a rapid rise despite measures being undertaken by law enforcers to check the menace.
